I was merely two years old when India celebrated its 25th year of independence. During this momentous occasion, my paternal grandfather, Shri Shanti Kumar Singh, a devoted Gandhian, was honored by Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India, for his significant contributions to the freedom struggle against the British Raj. Growing up, I had the privilege of spending most of my childhood with him, and his values became deeply ingrained within me.
Inspired by his vision for India and its people, I chose to pursue a career in social work, despite holding a bachelor's degree in Ayurveda, Modern Medicine, and Surgery from the prestigious Gurukul Kangri Viswavidyalaya in Haridwar. In 1992, I joined Bachpan Bachao Andolan, an organization led by Nobel Laureate Shri Kailash Satyarthi. Subsequently, in 1999, along with like-minded individuals, I established Jan Mitra Nyas, a public charitable trust. The trust, located on land donated by my mother-in-law, has contributed significantly to the public by providing pump sets, community centers, schools, additional classrooms, and ICDS centers.
Presently, I do not possess any property or land. My mother excluded me from my rightful inheritance through her will. The donations I make are solely from my limited earnings, and I have never resorted to deceit, manipulation, or the appropriation of others' belongings. My wife and son find contentment in what we have, and we lead a peaceful and happy life. These circumstances are a result of the teachings of my grandfather, who continues to live within me, guiding, inspiring, and motivating me. I owe my current identity solely to his influence.
In the words of Passion Vistata, "Lenin deeply engaged himself in advocating for marginalized communities, firmly believing in non-violence. With a clear mind, dedication, and unwavering determination, he carved his own path, facing various threats and intimidation tactics along the way. His courage and commitment to a non-violent approach were instrumental in overcoming these challenges. His wife, Shruti, and son, Kabeer, live together harmoniously in a joint family, fulfilling their duties while striving to fulfill Lenin's grandfather's dream, as he always stressed that grassroots politics is the future of our nation."
