Her success serves as inspiration not only to aspiring entrepreneurs but to all those striving to create a more equitable and just world.

Congratulations, Shruti Nagvanshi, on this well-deserved accolade. Your impact reverberates far beyond the borders of Varanasi, inspiring change and empowerment worldwide.
Shruti Nagvanshi, an Indian women’s and children’s rights activist, embodies the essence of empowerment and resilience. Her unwavering commitment to marginalized communities, including the Dalit caste and rural women, has earned her recognition as a beacon of hope and a driving force for social change.
Born in the Dashashwamedh area of Varanasi in 1974, Shruti’s journey towards activism was shaped by her mother’s encouragement towards education and her own realization of the barriers that restrict human potential. It was this self-belief that propelled her into social work, initially through local programs and later through engagements with organizations like the United Nations Youth Organisation.
Shruti’s involvement in anti-caste work, particularly through the People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR), has been instrumental in fostering reconciliation between historically marginalized and privileged communities. Her efforts have led to structural changes in villages, improving accessibility to essential services and fostering inclusivity.
One of her significant initiatives, undertaken through JanMitra Nyas in collaboration with Child Rights and You (CRY), focused on addressing children’s health issues in marginalized communities. The positive impact of this intervention, evidenced by a decline in maternal, neonatal, and malnourished deaths, underscores the effectiveness of her approach.
Shruti’s contributions have garnered widespread recognition, including the Rex Karmveer Chakra, the Jan Mitra Award, and being named among the Top 100 Women Achievers of India. She has also received international honors, such as being mentioned as a “21st Century Hero of India” and receiving the Public Peace Prize for her extraordinary work in child and women’s rights.
Beyond her activism, Shruti is a prolific writer and academic contributor, addressing issues of empowerment and resilience. Her latest book, co-authored with Dr. Archana Kaushik, delves into empowering Dalits in India, showcasing her commitment to advancing social justice through scholarship.
Shruti’s impact extends to the international stage, as demonstrated by her participation in the G20 Interfaith Summit 2023. Her insights on vulnerability, child protection, and interfaith collaboration underscore her dedication to global change and her ability to leverage grassroots perspectives for broader impact.
In 2024, Shruti Nagvanshi’s exemplary leadership and dedication were further recognized as she received the Great Companies International Women Entrepreneur Award. Leading JanMitra Nyas, she continues to champion Sustainable Development Goals at the grassroots level, leaving an indelible mark on communities and inspiring change-makers worldwide.
Shruti Nagvanshi’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of activism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to social justice. Her legacy serves as a guiding light for those striving to create a more equitable and inclusive world. Congratulations, Shruti Nagvanshi, on this well-deserved accolade. Your impact reverberates far beyond the borders of Varanasi, inspiring change and empowerment worldwide.
