🌍 Milestone: Core Marcher in the Global March Against Child Labour, 1998

1998 marked an important milestone in my journey as a child-rights and human rights activist.

I had the privilege of participating as a core marcher in the Global March Against Child Labour, joining an international movement that brought together activists, children's rights defenders, trade unions and civil society from across the world.

Barcelona — May 1998

One of these historic moments was documented by La Vanguardia, a leading Spanish newspaper, on 16 May 1998, during the Global March's mobilisation in Barcelona.

The photograph captures the energy of people coming together across countries and cultures with one common demand:

End the exploitation of children.

🇮🇳 India — December 1998

The second clipping was published by Amar Ujala on 13 December 1998, documenting the Global March and its message in India.

Seeing my participation recorded in both international and Indian media remains a treasured reminder of how a grassroots struggle for children's rights in India became connected to a global movement.

From local struggles to a global movement

For me, the Global March was not merely a march.

It was a powerful lesson in international solidarity.

Children facing exploitation may live in different countries and speak different languages, but their fundamental rights are the same:

The right to education.
The right to protection.
The right to dignity.
The right to a childhood free from exploitation.

Looking back from 2026, these newspaper clippings represent more than memories. They are a milestone in my journey of human rights activism and a reminder that sustained movements can transform local struggles into global demands for justice.

1998 — Global March Against Child Labour.
A journey of solidarity that continues.
