Standing Against Injustice: An Urgent Letter to Common People Highlighting Threats to the Dalit Movement (2007)

"Urgent Letter to Common People: Highlighting Threats to the Dalit Movement (2007)"

Dear Fellow Citizens,

I write to you today with a heavy heart, deeply concerned about the ominous threats looming over the Dalit movement. In recent times, we have witnessed a disturbing rise in hostility and oppression towards Dalits, threatening to undermine the hard-fought progress and aspirations of an entire community.

As conscientious individuals, it is imperative for us to recognize and confront the systemic injustices and discrimination faced by Dalits on a daily basis. The very fabric of our society is woven with the threads of equality, justice, and fraternity, principles that are grossly violated when any section of our population is subjected to indignity and oppression.

The Dalit movement, born out of the struggle for dignity and rights, has been a beacon of hope for millions, challenging the entrenched caste-based hierarchies and demanding equal opportunities and representation for all. However, this noble movement now finds itself besieged by forces seeking to silence dissent, suppress voices of dissent, and perpetuate caste-based discrimination.

It is incumbent upon each one of us, as guardians of democracy and champions of justice, to stand in solidarity with our Dalit brothers and sisters. We must vehemently oppose any attempt to dilute or undermine the hard-won gains of the Dalit movement. Our collective silence in the face of injustice only emboldens the oppressors and perpetuates the cycle of discrimination.

Let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality, social justice, and human dignity. Let us raise our voices against caste-based discrimination and pledge our unwavering support to the Dalit movement. Together, we can build a society where every individual is treated with respect and dignity, irrespective of caste, creed, or background.

In solidarity,

Lenin Raghuvanshi

Celebrating 32 Years of Love and Activism: A Journey of Resilience and Dedication

"Eternal Bond: A Journey of Love and Activism"

In the tapestry of time, our story unfolds,

A saga of love, activism, and dreams untold.

Hand in hand, we tread this path divine,

With hearts entwined, our spirits align.

From the moment our souls intertwined,

A bond forged in stars, a union defined.

Through trials and triumphs, side by side,

We journeyed forth with unwavering pride.

On serendipitous days, our love was sealed,

In the embrace of destiny, our fate revealed.

With each passing year, our bond grew strong,

A melody of togetherness, an eternal song.

In the tapestry of time, our legacy is etched,

In every act of kindness, in every life touched.

From the corridors of power to the streets we roam,

Champions of justice, making the world our home.

Through the highs and lows, we've stood tall,

Facing life's storms, breaking down every wall.

With courage as our compass, and love as our guide,

We've journeyed together, side by side.

So here's to us, on this anniversary dear,

A celebration of love, and a vision clear.

May our bond endure, through all space and time,

A beacon of hope, an eternal paradigm.

As I sit down to articulate these sentiments, my heart swells with a tapestry of emotions, reflecting upon the extraordinary odyssey that Shruti Nagvanshi and I have embarked upon together. Today, on the auspicious occasion of our 32nd anniversary of life partnership, memories cascade like a vibrant river, carrying with them the essence of our shared struggles, triumphs, and unwavering commitment.

It was on the serendipitous day of February 22, 1992, that Shruti and I laid the cornerstone of our union. The universe seemed to smile upon us, blessing our inception with a grand celebration. Beyond our personal journey, our partnership extended into the realm of social work. On October 28, 1992, we organized a program where Swami Agnivesh graced us as the chief guest, marking the commencement of our joint endeavor. Little did we comprehend then, the profound impact this union would wield on our lives and the lives of countless others. Subsequently, I had the privilege of meeting Shri Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Awardee, and became involved with Bachpan Bachao Andolan. On October 17, 1993, I had the honor of residing with the family of Shri Kailash Satyarthi at their residence in Kalkaji, Delhi. Furthermore, Shruti and I met the legendary social worker Shri Shamshad Khan on November 21, 1993, at Mirzapur.

In the spring of 1993, at the tender age of 23, I found myself assuming the mantle of state president for the United Nations of Youth Organization (UNYO), UP chapter. This responsibility imbued me with a profound sense of purpose and ignited a fervent passion for advocating the rights of the marginalized. Our trajectory took a decisive turn in 1994 when I completed my Bachelor's in Ayurveda, Modern Medicine, and Surgery (BAMS), laying the groundwork for our collective mission. However, amidst our endeavors, we encountered a moment of sorrow with the passing of my grandfather, Shri Shanti Kumar Singh, Gandhian, and Freedom Fighter, on March 28, 1993.

The inception of PVCHR in 1996 heralded a pivotal moment in our lives—an embodiment of our unwavering commitment to championing the rights of the marginalized. With unwavering dedication and resilience, we embarked on a journey to forge a more just and equitable society, where every voice resonated.

In January 1998, while standing on foreign soil in Manila, participating in the Global March against Child Labor, the universe bestowed upon us another precious gift—our son, Kabeer Karunik. His arrival infused our lives with boundless joy and renewed purpose, reaffirming our dedication to creating a world where every child could aspire and thrive.

Today, as we commemorate 32 years of companionship, the universe has conspired to shower us with unexpected blessings. The arrival of roses and a painting by the renowned artist Mr. Dheerendra Sisodia fills our hearts with gratitude, serving as a poignant reminder of the love and support enveloping us. Amidst the jubilations, a new family member, Mr. Bhairav, graces our photographs, symbolizing the ever-expanding circle of love and solidarity.

Reflecting on this extraordinary journey, I am inundated with profound gratitude for the love, support, and unwavering companionship of Shruti. Together, we have weathered storms, scaled mountains, and carved a path of resilience and dedication. Happy Anniversary of life partnership, my beloved Shruti. Here's to many more years of love, activism, and shared dreams.

Reflections on Humanitarian Action and Grassroots Leadership

Meeting Rahul Gandhi at the Constitution Club of India

Reflections on Humanitarian Action

In 2007, amidst the sprawling landscapes of Uttar Pradesh, a tale of compassion and resilience unfolded. Mukesh, a three-year-old child battling malnutrition, stood as a poignant symbol of the struggles faced by marginalized communities. In those challenging times, Rahul Gandhi’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes illuminated the darkness.

Upon learning of Mukesh’s plight, Rahul Gandhi swiftly sprang into action, mobilizing resources to ensure the child received urgent medical attention. With arrangements made for Mukesh’s admission to the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a ray of hope penetrated the despair that gripped his family. Accompanied by dedicated activists from the People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights, Mukesh embarked on a journey of healing and hope.

The road to recovery was fraught with obstacles, yet Mukesh’s resilience and the collective efforts of compassionate individuals bore fruit. Through proper medical care and nutritional support, Mukesh’s health began to improve, breathing new life into a once dire situation. His story stands as a testament to the transformative power of compassion and collective action in the face of adversity.

Embracing Grassroots Leadership

Newspaper Coverage of Our Participation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra

Fast forward to 2023, I received an invitation to join Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, a journey aimed at fostering unity in diversity and combating injustice, hatred, and sectarianism. Inspired by the legacy of my paternal grandfather, Shri Shanti Kumar Singh, a Gandhian freedom fighter, I eagerly embraced the opportunity to contribute to the collective conscience of our nation.

As the yatra traversed the length and breadth of our diverse nation, Rahul Gandhi’s spiritual energy and commitment to unity became palpable. Engaging with people from all walks of life, we witnessed firsthand the transformative power of unity and solidarity. Our meeting amidst a sea of enthusiastic supporters served as a poignant reminder of the importance of grassroots politics and dialogue in shaping the future of our nation.

Continuing the Journey

In July 2018, I had the privilege of meeting Rahul Gandhi, the then National President of the Congress (I), at the party’s office.

In July 2018, I had the privilege of meeting Rahul Gandhi, then National President of the Congress (I), at the party’s office. His inclusive leadership left a lasting impression, highlighting his commitment to grassroots politics and inclusive governance. Now, his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ has entered Prime Minister Modi’s constituency, Varanasi, drawing participation from diverse political backgrounds.

Accompanied by leaders from various parties, Rahul Gandhi’s message of justice resonates as the journey progresses through Uttar Pradesh and beyond. As the yatra continues its onward march, symbolizing a collective quest for justice and unity, Rahul Gandhi’s leadership reaffirms his stature as a statesman committed to building a better and more vibrant inclusive and diverse India for all.

Navigating Family Turmoil: A Journey of Ideological Differences and Resilience

In 2010, I was honored to receive the prestigious Weimer Human Rights Award in Germany, a recognition that marked a significant milestone in my advocacy journey. After that, a honor ceremony, organized by Shri Ashok Anand, provided a platform for my father to deliver a speech that echoed with the audience, emphasizing his dedication to human rights and acknowledging our ideological disparities.

Thirteen years have elapsed since that memorable speech, and the dynamics within our family have evolved significantly. Despite our differences, my father had always shown appreciation for my work, recognizing my endeavors in combating corruption and human rights abuses. However, recent events have unraveled the complexities and challenges embedded within our familial relationships.

In May 2023, while I was engaged in official duties in Manila, my father filed baseless petitions accusing me of being a foreign agent and anti-national. These unfounded allegations surfaced amidst an atmosphere of familial discord, conspicuously ignoring the tragic suicide of my youngest brother, Kanad, which occurred just a day prior to my father's actions. The glaring omission raised suspicions regarding the underlying motives behind my father's accusations, hinting at potential ulterior motives linked to property disputes within the family.

The turmoil within our family escalated with the revelation of my mother's revised will in 2012, which unjustly excluded me and my life partner from property rights. Despite my substantial financial contributions and unwavering support, my father's influence swayed my mother's decisions, serving as a stark reminder of the deep-seated ideological and personal conflicts within our family.

Navigating through legal proceedings and police inquiries, I confronted the harsh reality of familial betrayal and manipulation. Reports obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) unveiled the baselessness of my father's accusations, attributing them to a mere ploy driven by his refusal to acknowledge my brother Stalin.

In stark contrast to my father's actions, I reflected on the values of inclusivity and shared humanity that define my advocacy. While my father's xenophobic stance threatened these principles, the unwavering support of my extended family fortified my resolve to pursue justice and uphold human rights.

The journey of unraveling my family's tale of turmoil has been rife with challenges and heartache. Yet, amidst the chaos, I remain resolute in my commitment to justice, human rights, and the enduring legacy of my mother and Gandhian grandfather.

As I navigate the intricacies of familial relationships and ideological disparities, I draw strength from the resilience of the human spirit and the power of unwavering conviction. In the face of adversity, I am propelled by the belief in a better tomorrow—one where compassion prevails over conflict and where familial bonds are nurtured by love, understanding, and mutual respect.

Tribute on Grandma's Death Anniversary: Introduction to the Life of Yashoda Devi, Wife of Freedom Fighter Shanti Kumar Singh

Yashoda Devi, the esteemed daughter of the Hinouti village in Chandauli district, was born into the family of Maryada Singh. After marrying Shanti Kumar Singh, she became a significant presence in her household, assuming the role of the eldest daughter-in-law. Inspired by tales of the freedom struggle, Yashoda Devi always harbored a desire to contribute. When her husband faced a seven-month sentence for participating in the Non-Cooperation Movement and assaulting a British official, her resolve only strengthened.

In August 1942, when her husband went into hiding, a large contingent of British troops arrived in Dhaurahra village to apprehend him. With only women remaining at home, who refused to flee, Yashoda Devi bore the brunt of the British onslaught. She was subjected to countless lashes, kicks, and beatings, her home ransacked, and belongings destroyed. They even poisoned whatever food remained, threw utensils, grinding stones, and pots into wells, leaving nothing untouched by their cruelty.

Yashoda Devi drew inspiration for her fight for freedom from her great-grandfather Anmol Singh, who had fought bravely against the British in 1857. Her aunt Rama Devi was also a leading figure in the freedom struggle. Undeterred by adversities, Yashoda Devi roamed from village to village like a brave warrior, kindling the flame of patriotism. Her activism extended beyond Dhaurahra to encompass the entirety of Banaras, encouraging women to step out of their domestic confines and embrace the vast sky of possibilities.

Her proactive stance garnered support from her family, transforming their home into a sanctuary for revolutionaries. Yashoda Devi's relentless efforts even attracted the attention of leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who visited Dhaurahra and held crucial discussions with revolutionary Ras Bihari Bose. From the first female Chief Minister Sucheta Kriplani to Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, the soil of Dhaurahra witnessed the footprints of many luminaries.

Yashoda Devi's determination, zeal, and courage earned her accolades even from leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The tree under which revolutionaries were hanged in Dhaurahra was famously adorned with a lamp every evening in remembrance of those martyrs, a tradition that Yashoda Devi diligently upheld. On February 11, 2018, at the age of 109, Yashoda Devi bid farewell, marking the end of an era that every patriot would salute.

Prayer for World Harmony

1

In the echoes of Maa Kamakhya's wisdom,
I beseech for peace, justice, and freedom.
Amidst the strife in Gaza and Ukraine's plight,
A plea for ceasefire, a yearning for the light.

Maa Kamakhya's voice, a sacred decree,
It's the clash of greed and hegemonic masculinity.
My father, Daksh Parajapati, long ago,
Against divisive religions, he chose love to bestow.
In the nameless devotion of Mahadev's kin,
Untouchable son, sacrificed for inclusion within.

No room for hatred, no space for war,
Our path is love and nonviolence forevermore.
War, a cowardly act, injustice's ally,
Resistance through protest, humanity's reply.
In the realm of spirituality, a potent resistance,
Prayers against misery, a plea for existence.

Mahadev and Maa Parvati's divine guide,
Towards natural love, compassion, and diversity, we stride.
A world forged in empathy, a sanctuary for all,
May this prayer echo, and humanity stand tall.
2
In Maa Kamakhya's sanctified abode,
Beneath Kalashtami's mesmerizing ode.
Guided by life's partner, Shruti Nagvanshi,
We traversed Umanand, Bhimashankar, and Bhuneshwari Maa's decree.

Beneath Maa Bangalamukhi's gaze divine,
A fervent plea for Gaza's ceasefire, entwined.
In this sacred realm, hopes rise and soar,
Yearning for worldwide peace, resilience to restore.
3
In the sacred embrace of Maa Kamakhya's dham,
Amidst Kalashtami's enchanting rhyme.
Hand in hand with life's companion, Shruti Nagvanshi,
Journeyed through Umanand, Bhimashankar, and Bhuneshwari Maa's decree.
Now, under the divine gaze of Maa Bangalamukhi,
A prayer echoes for Gaza's ceasefire plea.
In this hallowed space, aspirations ascend,
For global peace and resilient development, may they blend.
